Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, feel, use, communicate, recognize, describe, identify, manage, understand and explain emotions. It is said to be a powerful key to effective leadership.

In the workforce, most employers nowadays are looking for people with high Emotional intelligence so that they're able to contribute to their company. This is due to people with high emotional intelligence tend to be more successful in life than those with lower emotional intelligence. Examples of these people normally possessed self-awareness, self-motivation and good relationship skills.

A person with a high emotional intelligence is also capable of understanding the feelings of others. Therefore, they are better at handling relationships compared to those with a lower emotional intelligence. This means one is able to secure better relationships with colleagues at work or even the people around you. With such capability, one will definitely succeed in life. According to the article, `Emotional intelligence' a new hiring criterion, "the ever-increasing business emphasis on technology and globalization means more communication, cooperation, and teamwork is necessary to get projects completed on time and on budget". Hence, with better relationship and strong teamwork built with colleagues, better decisions and agreements among each other can be done easily.

On the other hand, most of us would think that there are people who are born with talents and thus they become successful. But that is wrong, what they did was to develop the ability to understand their own emotions, inspire and understand the emotions of others. Even if we are born with certain emotional intelligence, this is a skill developed and it is definitely not a kind of talent.

In conclusion, emotional intelligence is a very important ability that we should all develop if we want to solve personal, business and social issues in a more effective way, achieve our goals and have a happier relationship. Talent and IQ is definitely not enough to be successful.
